La legislación cooperativa en Uruguay
Abstract
During the 20th century, the legislation on cooperatives in Uruguay was based on the criterion of regulating each branch of cooperativism, which led to a fragmented and not homogeneous picture. In 2008, on the other hand, the General Law of Cooperatives No. 18,407 was fulfilled, which gave unity and harmony to the legal regime of cooperatives, at the same time that it incorporated new instruments so that these entities could adapt their development and activities to modern times. This article, after a very brief reference to the legislative background, presents a complete description of the current legislation for all kinds of cooperatives in Uruguay.
