Las cooperativas agrarias y las sociedades de fomento rural. Evolución y situación actual
Abstract
The cooperative and associative forms linked to the Uruguayan rural environment are long-standing. With more than a hundred years of experience, the various associative forms with a cooperative spirit have sought to solve the different needs of rural producers, especially family ones. The most significant and historical antecedents of Uruguayan agricultural cooperatives indicate the testing of various strategies to take advantage of opportunities, gain scale and negotiating power through cooperation between agricultural entities or the development of new services. This article seeks to describe the trajectory and strategies that Uruguayan rural associative/cooperative organizations have adopted in the face of changes in the environment (especially markets and sectoral policy approaches) and the challenges they face in the future.
