Agricultural Cooperatives. An Indispensable Factor for Food Sovereignty in Cuba
Abstract
Agricultural cooperatives are the tool commonly used worldwide to promote integration processes. The globalization of markets and the maximized increase in competition require a dizzying and efficient response in international cooperativism. The decisions made by cooperative societies have been oriented towards the execution of integration or concentration processes, with the constitution of second-degree cooperatives being one of the most popular routes. Agricultural cooperatives are companies linked in a stable way to the rural territory and the agri-food producer. In addition, they exercise leadership in the economy of these areas and in the establishment of population in rural municipalities, thus contributing to balance, management and rural development.
